civil rights - rights that every person has according to the law                

equal rights - every person has the same rights; no one is different according to the law

integrated - allowing anyone to use or do something (equally) no matter what their color

national holiday - celebrated by every state in the country.  All banks, post offices, and government buildings are closed on this day.

nonviolent protests - speaking out in a peaceful way and no one gets hurt

pastor - leader or head of a church

prohibited - not allowed; against the law

protests - to speak out against something that you feel is unfair

racial injustice - treating people unfairly because of the color of their skin

segregated - the act to separating people of different colors (for example: blacks not being allowed to sit where they wanted on the bus)

successor - the person who continues a job after someone stops
